Why French Children Don’t Have ADHD

Here’s an interesting post, brought to our attention by Noel Keith. The author, psychotherapist Marilyn Wedge, highlights the differences in the psychiatric approach between U.S. and French culture when it comes to treating kids. In France, psychiatrists don’t use a DSM style diagnostic approach, but rather look at the underlying psychosocial and contextual causes for behavioral issues in kids. One caveat to the article: It’s a bit broad, in that it paints French cultural and family patterns  in broad strokes. France, like every other culture, has multiple variations in family dynamics.

Enjoy.
